After a tremendously awful house selling & closing process, then seven weeks of living at my parent's small house with no access to our business, mail problems so we weren't getting paid, and THEN moving into a house with no power, we're finally living in our new place. Here's a "before" tour of the house, which is bigger and in an incredible neighborhood within walking distance of just about everything. In short: it was worth it! :)
We're looking to put in a nice bench, some wall hooks, replace the lighting, and install a mail slot in here. Almost every room in this place has some really ugly builder's standard lighting (as well as hollow-core doors) so we're going to slowly replace them over time.
the living room
This is going to be a true living room, without a TV - but we already filled one of the closets with board games and got a (blue velvet!) couch and record cabinet, so we're excited to get this room together quickly.
the dining room
This is one of the biggest rooms of the house - it's a lot bigger than this photo shows! It has a long window seat, maybe about 10-11 feet. We eventually hope to install some built-ins in the window on the right to store all of our dishes & props.
the kitchen & mystery room
This is probably the most complex part of the house and our renovation plan. Everything is poorly made, it's all builder's standard or worse, and none of it makes any sense layout-wise. There's a room on the back of the house that was completely closed off, then a bathroom was built in front of it into the kitchen.
So we'll be gutting the kitchen (since we already have a full one ready and waiting to be installed), removing the bathroom, opening up the mystery room*, finishing that room so it opens to the backyard, and installing a separate bathroom in there. That room will act as our pantry as well as the backyard entry. We're really excited to get this started this month!
*We got to see into the room after the seller took a bunch of siding off the house and opened a window into it. It's not creepy, promise! :P
main bathroom & laundry room
This is the other big project we're hoping to tackle. At the top of the stairs to the 2nd floor, there's a small hallway which goes past the bathroom and into a small "bed"room. (No closet.) In the short term, we'll be hooking up our laundry in here. (A big yay for 2nd floor laundry!) We'll be doing this when we redo the kitchen.
In the long term, our big wish would be to switch the rooms - to turn the tiny bathroom into a laundry/utility room, and turn the bigger room into a full bathroom with a separate shower and tub. That's the dream though - definitely not on our radar any time soon.
There are two big bedrooms on the second floor, as well as a third "bedroom" that acts as a pass-through room the the third floor. We're using one of these as our bedroom, and the other two as offices.
The third floor includes another two bedrooms and large landing. The smaller room is our "TV" room, the larger is our guest bedroom. We plan to install some bookshelves in here - all of our bookshelves are too tall so our books have been sitting in the closets since we moved in.
That's it for now! Can't wait to update with (hopefully) better photos! :)
