After doing a few portrait sessions for Sarah Knight, who runs Roc Girl Gang, she asked if I could shoot the next Becoming Boss event. I love these events because they’re a great place to meet new people, hear some sage wisdom from local women doing the damn thing, and the spaces they’re in are always inspiring.
#8 was at the Wilder Room on East Ave, and it was totally gorgeous. Unfortunately, when I came in at 9AM it was pouring rain and it was a bit dark when I came in —
So getting detail shots to start out with was a little challenging. But look at how great the decor ended up looking! Luckily, by the time people started filing in, the sun was just peeking through —
And during Reenah Oshun Golden’s poetry reading, the sun was shining through the tall windows in such a beautiful way. Her readings were so energizing and affirming, especially after I’ve been feeling especially dejected and apathetic about the political and societal problems around us lately. These were my absolute favorite parts of the day, because the energy in the room was amazing.
Then came the keynote and the panel — I couldn’t not photograph the large amounts of notes I saw attendees taking. There were so many good nuggets of knowledge in this talk.
The mingling came quickly, so I had to work pretty hard to get lots of candids in the short amount of time I had available. Luckily, everyone was having a great time and they were actually connecting, so it made my job easy.
Despite the weather, this Becoming Boss was beautiful, I learned a lot, and it was great meeting so many passionate, driven women here in Rochester. Read the recap of the full day here at Roc Girl Gang.
